Cotton

Cotton is a very sweet and handy ranch mare. Homeraised here on the Powderhorn Ranch, she comes from the very heart of the program. This pretty gal is just as soft in the bridle and dainty in her step as her name implies. Whether it is navigating rock-strewn mountainsides and going through dense brush or loping effortless circles in the arena, she handles herself with confidence. Her gaits are smootha nd comfortable, and she really excels at taking care of her rider, even in stressful or precarious situations. We have put many different guests and trail riders on her all summer, and everyone who has ridden her has fallen in love with her! From carrying flags, riding bareback and bridleless to gracefully jumping over big logs, crossing creeks and stepping across railroad tracks, nothing has deterred her. As quiet as Cotton rides, don't let her soft look fool you; she is just as capable of dragging calves at branding, and has the grit to hold down a 1300 lb. cow needing to be doctored. She has definitely known long days and wet saddle blankets; she has worked for her living both here in Wyoming and in Arizona. She is also a super fun and reliable mount to wrangle horses on, and is willing to open up and run when asked. She does a great job sorting both cattle and horses, and knows how to handle an alleyway gate like a pro. After a good day's work she is the perfect partner to take to the swimming hole, or to town for a bite to eat and a cup of coffee from the drive through. She is not mareish and has always been pastured/penned with a mixed herd of geldings and mares. She is all set and ready to be someone's new bestie and go-to horse to get the job done.
