All are welcome to gather with us for preaching and worship!
The 2022 Sale will be held IN-PERSON on Saturday, June 4th, 2022. Public activities begin the day before, Friday, June 3rd, when the gates open at 3:00 PM. Come and browse the arena to see the horses and watch them ride in an unofficial preview session throughout the afternoon. Diamond-McNabb and consignment riders will be at the arena grounds and are glad to answer your questions about individual horses. A barbecue dinner is served around 5:00 PM for approximately $15/plate while supplies hold out; and at 6:00 PM Ken will offer a horsemanship demonstration and training tips.
Doors will open about 8 o'clock. By 9:00 AM riders will start taking the sale horses through an official preview session. Concessions open at 8:00 AM and lunch will be available for approximately $13/plate from the barbecue caterer beginning at 11:00 AM.
At 12:30 on Saturday the sale announcements are made and the first horse of the afternoon will be brought into the sale ring to open the sale at 1:00 PM. We expect to proceed directly through to the final horse without interruption.
Throughout the public hours of the event, the Ken McNabb Horsemanship storefront in the arena facility will be open to offer you instructional materials, hand-chosen tack items and a selection of apparel. We will also have some Diamond-McNabb logo items, western gifts and home items in the Powderhorn Ranch Gifts shop. Sunday morning, feel free to return to the arena for a 9:30 am Cowboy Church service and conversation with riders and guests as our annual event winds down. We look forward to seeing you!
Once again we expect to welcome Ty Thompson of Billings, MT to call the sale. Ty is a well-experienced, professional and reputable auctioneer. Among his credentials is the title of winning the Livestock Marketing Association's World Livestock Auctioneer Championship, and he is well-sought after in both the equine and livestock industries.
All horses entering the sale ring will sell, subject to $2,000 minimum bid for saddle age horses. We expect no 'no sales' or 'pass outs’. Please be sure to read the terms and conditions of the sale in the official annual catalog, as well as the details of our Good Fit Guarantee, included in the Terms of the Sale. These terms apply to all bidders, even if you don't read them (so please read them). Thank you.
Internet bidding and telephone bidding will both be available- scroll down for more information! We find that it is best for people to attend in person but if you can't make it, we will do our best to help you locate and bid on a horse that fits you.
Online bidding will be hosted by DV Auction, which pairs a live video of the sale ring with an audio feed that you can watch and hear on your computer. If you would like to bid online on sale day, please pre-register at www.dvauction.com in advance. Registration is free but horses that are purchased by a winning bid using the online service do incur a service charge to pay for the costs of the webcast. More information can be found at www.DVAuction.com.
Phone bidding is accommodated through a live conference call that will be hosted by a representative who will help to keep you informed of the sale ring bidding and represent your phone bids as the horses sell through the auction. Phone bidders will need to PREREGISTER with us prior to sale weekend. The button below will be reactivated for registration in Spring of 2022. The registration fee is $10 but please note that payment for horses will be settled separately after the auction, using a payment method of your choice. Watch for more information about phone bidding on this site as we draw closer to sale day, and if you have any questions please use our contact page to call or message us.
The sale takes place at the Powderhorn Ranch along state highway 91, also known as Cold Springs Road. It is approximately 40 minutes from Douglas, Wyoming and 1 hour, 15 minutes from Casper, Wyoming. Written driving directions are as follows:
Traveling South on I-25, take the LaPrele Creek Exit (#146) and turn right at the end of the ramp, then immediately left. Stay on this frontage road (state hwy 96) for about 3 miles until you reach the intersection with Cold Springs Road, marked as state Hwy 91. Turn right onto the Cold Springs Road. You will go by the LaPrele Reservoir and the Tomahawk Ranch, both on your right. Stay on this Cold Springs Road until you reach the end of the pavement (approximately 25 to 30 minutes). At the end of the pavement, you will continue straight on the dirt road for approximately 1/2 mile until you see an iron sign for the Powderhorn Ranch and a gravel turn-in on your right hand side. Turn here over the cattleguard and follow the signs for the arena (right over the next cattleguard, past the houses and continue down the hill. At the bottom of the hill, the arena will be located over your right shoulder; turn right over the cattleguard and you can't miss it.)
Traveling North on I-25, exit towards Douglas, WY at Exit #140. At the end of a long ramp is an intersection with a stop light; turn right onto Riverbend Road. On your right, watch for Esterbrook Road (state hwy 94) and turn right, passing under the interstate. On your right in about 1 mile, turn right onto Chalk Buttes Road (county 9) and continue for about 4 miles until you reach the intersection with Cold Springs Rd (state hwy 91). Turn left here onto Cold Springs Rd and continue until the pavement ends- approximately 20 minutes. When you reach the end of the pavement, continue straight on the dirt road for approximately 1/2 mile until you see an iron sign for the Powderhorn Ranch and a gravel turn-in on your right hand side. Turn here over the cattleguard and follow the signs for the arena (right over the next cattleguard, past the houses and continue down the hill. At the bottom of the hill, the arena will be located over your right shoulder; turn right over the cattleguard and you can't miss it.)
The nearest commercial airport to the sale is the Natrona County International Airport in Casper, WY (code CPR). We have daily service through Denver (United) and Salt Lake City (Delta). There is an airstrip in Douglas, WY for private aircraft- more information available by calling Converse County at 307-358-4924.
If you're planning on driving out to join us, you can see what we may commonly have for weather around sale time by referring to the Weather Underground Trip Planner. The first week in June is still considered late Springtime in our neck of the woods, but the weather is usually decent. Road conditions can be checked at WyoRoad.Info or by tuning to AM radio 1610.
Vehicle and trailer parking are available at the ranch. Please follow the signs and use the designated spaces as we carefully allot the arena parking to be able to accommodate the number of guests that we are expecting. There are RV lots in and around Douglas (there is a KOA near exit 140 off of I-25) but we do not have RV hookups at the ranch.
